Why Nurses Need Fingerprinting

Licensing boards and employers require fingerprint-based criminal background checks before you can practice.

The Texas Board of Nursing Requirement

The Texas Board of Nursing (BON) requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check for all RN, LVN and APRN applicants. This applies to initial licensure, endorsement from another state, and reinstatement. Your fingerprints are submitted for checks against both the Texas DPS criminal history database and national FBI records.

Out-of-State & Non-Compact Licenses

Applying to a nursing board outside Texas, or in a non-compact state? Those boards often require their own fingerprint cards or an FBI Identity History Summary, and they must be completed from Texas without traveling. We have completed cards for nurses heading to Florida, California, New York, Ohio, Maryland, and many other states.

Nurse Fingerprinting FAQs

Direct answers about fingerprinting for nursing licenses in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Do nurses need fingerprints for a Texas nursing license?

Yes. The Texas Board of Nursing requires a fingerprint-based criminal background check for RN, LVN and APRN applicants, including initial licensure, endorsement from out of state, and reinstatement. Your fingerprints are checked against both Texas DPS and FBI records.

What fingerprint card do nurses need?

Most Texas Board of Nursing applicants use the FBI FD-258 fingerprint card or the board's designated electronic submission. If you are applying to an out-of-state or non-compact state board, that state often requires its own format. Tell us which board you are applying to and we complete the correct card.

How much does nurse fingerprinting cost?

$85 per person for mobile service, or $105 per person at our Irving office, and includes 2 completed cards with professional FBI-spec ink. Additional cards are $20 each. FBI Identity History Summary checks are $150. Travel fees and a 4% processing fee apply to mobile appointments at checkout.

Can you come to my home or hospital?

Yes. Our professional mobile technicians come to your home, workplace, or hospital anywhere in the DFW metroplex, including evenings and weekends. Same-day appointments are often available, which matters when a licensing deadline is approaching.

I'm applying for a nursing license in a non-compact state. Can you help?

Yes, and this is one of our most common nurse requests. We handle FD-258 cards, FDLE submissions for Florida, Ohio and Maryland fingerprint cards, and FBI Identity History Summary checks through VetConnex, an FBI-approved channeler, all completed from Texas.

Do you fingerprint nursing cohorts or hospital staff?

Absolutely. We regularly serve groups of 5 or more for hospitals, nursing programs, and licensure cohorts, with group rates available. We come to your facility and process multiple people efficiently while keeping every card to FBI quality standards.

How is your service different from IdentoGO?

IdentoGO is a walk-in kiosk service for electronic submissions. We provide personalized mobile service at your home, office, or hospital, with no waiting in line. Our professional technicians take the time to ensure clean, readable prints, and we also provide ink-card services that kiosks do not offer.
